Getting Big Like The Stars

Wanna look like Daniel Craig or Hugh Jackman?

These guys worked really hard to get their look ready for the camera. Don’t think they just look like this all the time, they don’t. Putting on muscle is actually harder and takes longer than losing fat (steroids aside).

That being said, here’s the scoop…

First both used compound movements and both watched their diet very carefully.

Daniel Craig

Daniel gained lean mass and bulked up using very heavy weights and bulk training for Casino Royale. So when it came to the sequel he chose to get ripped by focusing mostly on circuit training involving dips, pull ups, squats, bench press and clean and jerks (my favorite!).

He then leaned out using a diet very similar to the one I use. He ate eggs and toast for breakfast, protein and veg for lunch and a piece of protein, veg and fruit for dinner. He also used protein shakes post workout.

He added boxing several times a week to get tough.

Hugh Jackman

Hugh’s training consisted of lots of leg work such as squats, leg presses and barbell lunges. Along with hitting the bench press and speed training. Hugh is a strong guy benching 315lbs and leg pressing some 1000 lbs.

His diet consisted of 4 meals and 2 snacks consuming some 4500 calories per day.

If you examine their training, neither are something out of the ordinary or groundbreaking. Both these guys simply worked hard to prepare their bodies for the movie. Both admit they cannot keep it up long term especially the extreme diet. Hugh was quoted saying his program and particularly his diet is not a permanent thing and not a sustainable way to train/eat.

Here’s what I recommend: An ideal would be to maintain a body that is some 5-10lbs from looking great. This is relatively easy to do. A few weeks would be all it takes to strip down to that beach looking body.

Those you do see looking great ALL the time are either genetically gifted, young and/or work extremely hard and make many sacrifices to look that way ALL of the time.
