You ready to start losing that excess fat? If so, I have something important for you to consider – KEEP A FOOD DIARY.
Yeah, I can just hear you now… JJ you want me to keep a diary of what I eat – WHAT A PAIN IN THE BUTT!
Actually, they say don’t knock something till you tried it
– have you? tried it I mean, for more than a day or two?
Ok, its not for everyone but if you are having trouble keeping to a fat loss plan or seeing results, may I suggest you try starting a diary.
For me, it is essential. You see the only time I fall off the wagon for longer than a day or two is when I give up keeping the food diary.
Its not that you have to keep a diary for ever. Not even for more than the first few weeks, but those first few weeks are essential to anyone who has not gotten into a routine of fat loss.
And, if you do slip back.. get back to keeping the diary. I can honestly tell you it is the one thing and the only thing that really gets me back on track. In fact for me it is really the single task that works.
Some of you will find it no trouble to simply control your food without the need to write it down, but for others (most of us) getting into keeping a diary works like wonders.
I keep my diary online because I can find time throughout the day to update it. If I am out, I note my food on a pad and update the diary online when I get back or the next day. If I forget to at least write it down somewhere, I easy forget all that I have eaten and the result is an under count of my calories/what I have consumed.
I have researched many online diaries and prefer not to pay for one. So for me fitday.com does the job nicely! However, as I live in London, I find I have to add alot of ‘custom’ foods for the first few days but then I can reselect them as needed once they have been added into my lists.
However, it is well worth the effort and filling in the diary becomes a quick and easy task. I simply select from my custom or recent foods list, adjust the serving if necessary and I am done.
I also use the custom foods to create ‘full custom meals’ for quickness. Therefore instead of having to add a bunch of ingredients I simply pick the meal.
I don’t bother to add all the macro and micro nutrients when adding custom foods, I usually simply put in the calories unless I am copying from a food label.
The downside of this is that your macro profile will not be so accurate but since I am mostly watching caloric intake and not so concerned about the exactness of carbs, protein and fat; I find this easier personally.

P.S. Also, if you keep a diary I can take a look at it for you if you decide to become a client of mine
